he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Community Empowerment Council (MPM) of Muslim organization Muhammadiyah launched 30 becak (pedicabs) bearing anti-corruption messages as part of the KPK's anti-corruption campaign on Wednesday.
The pedicabs are owned by members of the Association of Ahmad Dahlan Pedicab Drivers (Pabelan). The messages were put on both fenders of the pedicabs, which also bear batik motifs.
'This is the first mode of transportation in Indonesia to bear anti-corruption messages,' KPK education and community service director Dedi A Rachim said.
Dedi expressed hope that the anti-corruption messages could also be put on other modes of transportation, such as buses, public minivans and trains.
MPM chairman Said Tahulele said the 30 pedicabs were donated by the MPM, former Yogyakarta mayor Herry Zudianto, a private bank and students of Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University.
'We use becak as the medium because we want to expand the anti-corruption campaign to the grassroots level,' said Tuhulele.
Meanwhile, Pabelan chairman Edi Rahayu said that pedicab drivers had also been called on to be honest with their customers and not overcharge them.
