onfederation of Indonesian Workers'Union (KSPI) chairman Said Iqbal has announced the KSPI's support for GerindraParty presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto, on the condition that Prabowoagrees to meet workers' demands.
'If Prabowo agrees to sign a political contract, then all workers in this country will fully support him,' Iqbal said on Thursday.
He said Prabowo planned to meet workers from dozens of workers' unions who gathered at Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, after staging mass rallies to observe Labor Day.
'Pak Prabowo will deliver a speech there,' he said.
More than 100,000 workers from Jakarta and its surrounding cities staged mass rallies in observance of International Labor Day, which falls on May 1 every year. Among the workers' demands was a request for the government to grant them a 30 percent salary increase. (dic)
