State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has registered a 3
tate-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has registered a 3.7 percent growth in oil and gas production in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.
Pertamina's upstream director, Muhammad Husen, said that production between January and March of 2014 had reached as many as 196,000 oil barrels per day compared to its 189,000 daily-barrel output during the same period in 2013.
Gas production during the first quarter of 2014 also rose to 1.568 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) compared to 1.518 MMSCFD during the same period in 2013.
Husen noted that production issues stemmed from extreme weather disturbances in January 2014, the result of which was reduced production output at West Madura Offshore (WMO), Pertamina-Petrochina East Java (PPEJ) and Pertamina EP Cepu. The company has sped up drilling in oil wells to further increase production for the beginning of the second quarter of 2014.
Pertamina's biggest oil and gas producers come from three of its subsidiaries: PT Pertamina EP, Pertamina Hulu Energi and PT Pertamina EP Cepu.
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi's company secretary, Wahidin Nurluzia, said that production for the first quarter of 2014 reached 68,000 oil barrels per day and 502 MMSCFD in gas, an increase from 57,000 barrels and 467 MMSCFD in the same period in 2013. 'Oil production rose 19.3 percent in the first quarter of 2014, while gas rose 7.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2013,' Wahidin said.
