tate-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) says it needs to implement periodical blackouts in areas of Jakarta and Tangerang, Banten throughout Tuesday due to problems at the Muara Karang Plant's Muara Karang-Gandul and Balaraja-Lontar sub-systems, causing a power deficit of 750 megawatts.
PLN communication and environment deputy manager Roxy Swagerino said the firm would conduct three phases of blackouts today, with each phase taking three hours.
In the first phase, blackouts will start at 9 a.m. and end at midday in Teluk Naga, Pasar Kemis, Serang Balaraja, Serpong, BSD City, Bintaro, Kebon Jeruk, Bulungan, Tanah Kusir, Menteng, Kedoya Raya, Ciputat, Pesangrahan, Bandengan, Kapuk Raya, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Cikokol, Raya Legok and Raya Karawaci.
"We apologize for the periodical blackouts in Jakarta and Tangerang. We are accelerating recovery work on the damaged plant," Roxy said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
In the second phase, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., blackouts will occur in Bitung, Pasar Kemis, Gading Serpong, Raya Mauk, Grogol, Daan Mogot, Cengkareng, Ciledug, Gajah Mada, Hayam Wuruk, Curug Raya, Cipondoh, Bhayangkara Serpong and Alam Sutera.
In the last stage, locations experiencing blackouts between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. include Kapuk Kamal, Batu Ceper Raya, Raya Serang, Kali Angke, Taman Anggrek, Tomang Raya, Kapuk Kamal Muara, Kapuk Kayu Besar, Setiabudi, Kuningan, Sudirman, MH Thamrin, Tanah Abang, Karawaci, Pasar Kemis and Jatake.
