akarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo visited a water treatment plantlocated along the Anak Krukut River, Jl. Tanah Abang III, Central Jakarta, onFriday morning.
"Domestic waste water will enter through here [the plant] and so willwater from factories. It will be clean once it is returned to the river. Itwill be so clean that you will even be able to bathe in it," Jokowi saidas quoted by kompas.com.
The facilities at the water treatment plant were imported from Germany threemonths ago. The machine itself can treat 500 liters of dirty water per minute.
Jokowi added that the water treatment plant would increase the amount of cleanwater in the city, and that it would be beneficial because many places inJakarta experienced a lack of clean water.
According to Jokowi, construction on the water treatment plant started in late2013. However, he acknowledged that it had not started operating optimally and thatthe public was unlikely to feel the
benefits of the water treatment plant until the end of 2014.
The Jakarta Public Works Agency plans to build several other water treatmentplants, such as at the Pluit reservoir, the Ria-Rio reservoir and in Pasar Baruin Central Jakarta.
"So, this [Anak Krukut river water treatment] plant is just an example of what'sto come," Jokowi said. (fss)
