he Pekalongan administration in Central Java has begun repairs on a number of alternative roads to help ease traffic during the annual Idul Fitri exodus this year.
'We are repairing some alternative roads such as Jl. Ampera and widening Jl. Gapura that sits on the border with Batang regency,' head of the city's Public Works Agency Bambang Sugiharto said as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
He said Jl. Ampera in Duwet subdistrict was expected to finish within a week, while Jl. Gapuro was targeted to finish 10 days prior to Idul Fitri, which may fall at the end of July.
Pekalongan City Mayor Basyir Achmad said he wanted the road repairs to be high quality, so the roads would last long. He said his administration would make sure the project would finish before traffic increased during the exodus.
