em>Your comments on the verdict of former Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar, who was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of accepting Rp 57 billion (US$4.8 million) in bribes from a number of regional heads to influence decisions on election disputes:

Apart from life in prison, he deserves a community sentence, like sweeping the road or cleaning public facilities.

The court must confiscate all his ill-gotten wealth and return it to the state.

Ning M. Widjaja

It is not just money he has taken. It is the trust of the entire people of Indonesia that he has betrayed. He has almost single-handedly destroyed the Constitution Court and the legal system set up to maintain peaceful resolutions for the democratic process ... yes, he deserves a life sentence.

At least he was honest by publicly showing no sign of remorse.

The question is will he complete his sentence? He knows he won'€™t.

Richard Parkerofpi

It is the first sentence of many I hope? I hope he is sent to the worst prison possible.

Kevin Marco Tanaya

Hopefully he is just a dinosaur of a dying generation of corruptors. Enjoy your life in prison and don'€™t trouble the people any more. Bring in a new generation that will take Indonesia to the next level!

Deedee S

He'€™s got money stashed away, so prison is going to be a five-star hotel for him.

Jaytee

Life imprisonment for a corrupt Constitutional Court chief justice is the right sentence. He was proven to have accepted bribes to influence court decisions in several disputes. Instead of upholding the proper implementation of the Constitution, he damaged trust in our democratic system. However, the verdict is not final yet; we hope that the final outcome shall be in line with the people'€™s sense of justice.
