Indonesian junior tennis player Tami Grende has won the Wimbledon girls'€™ doubles title with her Chinese partner Qiu Yu Ye after beating Czech Marie Bouzkova and Hungarian Dalma Galfi 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in London on Sunday.

Grende has become Indonesia'€™s latest rising star in tennis after Angelique Widjaja, Indonesian tennis legend, won at the Grand Slam tournament as a junior player. Angelique swept the girl'€™s singles title in Wimbledon in 2001, as well as the women'€™s doubles with Gisela Dulko from Argentina in the Australian Open in 2002.

The victory in Wimbledon is Grende'€™s first title, as well as her first Grand Slam tournament, according to the event'€™s official website wimbledon.com.

Grende also participated in the girls' singles event where she was defeated by host player Gabriella Taylor 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

Grende was born in Denpasar, Bali on June 22, 1997 of Italian and Indonesian parents. She played for Indonesia at the Fed Cup last year, when she had a win-loss record of 0-3. (gda/nvn)
