he rupiah traded among banks in Jakarta weakened on Thursday morning by 36 points to 11,543 per US dollar, down from 11,507 per dollar the previous day.
"Speculation regarding the possible increase of the US' benchmark interest rate has limited the rupiah's movement in the market," PT Platon Niaga Berjangka analyst Lukman Leong said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said there was a good chance the US Federal Reserve would increase its interest rate, as recently released US macroeconomic information was in line with market expectations.
"US inflation stood at 1.2 percent throughout June, which was exactly what the market had predicted," he added.
On the other hand, he said the political situation at home had also affected the rupiah.
"The political euphoria following the presidential election has begun to fade," he said.
The rupiah began to see global sentiment and the country's economic fundamentals affect its rate on Thursday. (nfo)
