Elephants destroy rubber plantation in Tebo

H

erds of elephants have damaged hundreds of hectares of rubber trees belonging to the Anak Dalam tribe in the Sungai Mandelang subdistrict, Sumay district, Tebo regency, Jambi province.

'€œEvery durian season, like nowadays, the elephants pass through the plantations in their efforts to find the fruit. They destroyed rubber trees that have been planted for years,'€ tribal leader Temenggung Buyung said on Thursday.

Temenggung said he had reported the case to the regency'€™s forestry office, but had received no response on how to prevent the elephants from passing through the plantations.

'€œToday, at least seven hectares of plantations have been destroyed by the elephants. The plantations belonged to the Anak Dalam tribe, as well as to the residents in general,'€ he added.
