erds of elephants have damaged hundreds of hectares of rubber trees belonging to the Anak Dalam tribe in the Sungai Mandelang subdistrict, Sumay district, Tebo regency, Jambi province.
'Every durian season, like nowadays, the elephants pass through the plantations in their efforts to find the fruit. They destroyed rubber trees that have been planted for years,' tribal leader Temenggung Buyung said on Thursday.
Temenggung said he had reported the case to the regency's forestry office, but had received no response on how to prevent the elephants from passing through the plantations.
'Today, at least seven hectares of plantations have been destroyed by the elephants. The plantations belonged to the Anak Dalam tribe, as well as to the residents in general,' he added.
