Govt joint-team checks Bali int'l schools

joint-team from various governmental agencies visited a number of foreign-owned schools in Denpasar, Bali on Thursday, to check on their operating permits.
The team comprised of officials from the Denpasar Education, Youth and Sport Agency, the police, the Immigration Office and the Denpasar National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol).
'We also checked whether the schools have completed recommendation letters from my office,' I Wayan Supartha, head of the middle education division for the Denpasar Education, Youth and Sport Agency, said as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday.
Supartha said the requirement for foreign schools to submit recommendation letters was stipulated by Education and Culture Ministerial Decree No. 31/2014 on the cooperation and management of foreign educational institutions with Indonesian educational institutions.
He said the decree would help local education agencies monitor foreign schools.
'Foreign schools in Denpasar rarely coordinate with us, so many of them did not have recommendation letters,' he said.
Commenting on this, Regine W from Bali International School in Sanur said she would propose the recommendation letter soon after the school had a operating permit from the Education and Culture Ministry.
On Thursday, the joint-team also checked the work permit visas of expatriates employed in some international schools.
'We've checked that all expatriates working at the schools have working visas,' said I Made Budiasa, an official from the Denpasar Immigration Office. (gda)
