tate-owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN)has invested Rp 1 trillion (US$86 million) to develop gas pipeline networks inRiau to connect Duri and Dumai.
The project is set to commence operation at the beginning of 2016.
"We have allotted a Rp1 trillion investment to distribute gas between Duri and Dumai with a 100-kilometer pipe network," PGN Strategic Business Unit III general manager Sumbagut Yosviandry said in Pekanbaru on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said this project would enable PGN to better distribute gas to households, ports, restaurants and other industries in Dumai.
The firm is set to immediately begin the tendering process to find a contractor to construct the 100-kilometer pipeline.
"We plan to extend the Duri-Dumai pipe to North Sumatra in the future so that the energy crisis in Sumatra can be resolved with this project," he added. (nfo)
