he number of fatalities in the ferry sinking accident that occurred on Tuesday on the Kuala Kapuas river in Central Kalimantan river rose to 12 on Wednesday, with six passengers still missing.
The ferry, which was a traditional boat, sank with 70 people on board in the village of Panamas, which lies in the subdistrict of Salat.
The ill-fated boat was said to be overloaded with passengers as well as dozens of motorcyles.
Amrizuna, a spokesman for the Central Kalimantan branch of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), said on Wednesday that the agency was still searching for the missing passengers.
'This morning we sent another vessel and seven divers to help in the search,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Sea-travel accidents during Idul Fitri were also reported off the coast of West Sumatra, where two persons died; in the waters off Muara Batang Masang, Pariaman; and in Manggopoh, Agam regency, Central Sulawesi, where two persons were found dead at the beach resort of Tangjung Karang Donggala, 35 kilometers north of Palu.
