AKARTA: Former minister and presidential advisor Yusril Ihza Mahendra was awarded Best Lead Actor in Foreign Language Film at the 2014 Madrid Film Festival, tribunnews.com reported on Thursday.
Yusril was nominated for his turn as Cheng Ho in Legend of the East, competing against Salome Demuria (Cholchu), Emanuele Cerman (In The Name of Satan), Juan Carlos Montoya (The Knife of Don Juan), Masayuki Deai (Dreams and Illusions), Frederic Landenberg (Sam) and Alberto Bucco (Venice Saved).
The movie was originally aired by a private TV station in 2008.
'I did not expect the prestigious award,' Yusril said on Twitter.
The movie tells the story of China's most famous mariner, sent by a prince to retrieve his crown from insurgents. Along the way, he leads an expedition to Indonesia.
'There are global celebrities attending the event at the Hotel Convención. I don't feel like I'm a celebrity,' Yusril said.
