amiek Prakoso, an iconic Indonesian comedian from the local Srimulat group, died Sunday at the Brayat Minulya Hospital in Surakarta, Central Java, due to digestive complications.

Kompas.com reported that Mamiek, who was 53, passed away at around 3 p.m. after being admitted to hospital on Aug. 1.

Meanwhile, tempo.co reported that Mamiek had asked his younger brother, Eko Gudel, to take him to a hospital in Ngawi, East Java, after complaining of stomach pains.

'€œTwo days before Idul Fitri, Mas Mamiek returned home to Ngawi and was treated in a hospital due to stomach pains. He managed to return home but two days later, the pain returned and he chose to be treated in Surakarta,'€ Eko said as quoted by tempo.co on Sunday.

Eko said Mamiek was initially treated at the Mardi Lestari Hospital in Sragen, Central Java, but then on Saturday, he was taken to the Brayat Minulya Hospital in Surakarta.

'€œOn Saturday night, Mas Mamiek still appeared healthy. I even shared some jokes with him and his friends,'€ Eko said.

Mamiek's family has not yet released details on where he will be buried.

Mamiek, nicknamed the '€œoriole bird'€, was born in Salatiga, Central Java, on April 6, 1961. He launched his career with the Srimulat group, which became well-known in the 1990s.

Mamiek was also the elder brother of Didi Kempot, a popular singer of campursari, a blend of Javanese traditional and modern music.(gda)
