asDem Party secretary-general Patrice Rio Capella said his party had decided to dismiss Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, the sister of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, from her position as head of NasDem's advisory council.
He said the decision was mandatory as Rachma had openly declared her support for the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa ticket during the presidential election, while the party officially supported rival candidate pair Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.
'We are pursuing different paths here and that is the sole reason [for the dismissal],' Patrice said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said NasDem had appointed Maxi Gunawan to replace Rachmawati.
Guruh Soekarnoputra, Rachmawati's brother, said he was not surprised by NasDem's decision, adding that different viewpoints were frequently aired within a political party. (alz)
