Police send personnel to join UN forces in Sudan

he National Police have announcedthe deployment of personnel under the name Garuda Bayangkara task forceto assist the UN in Sudan and South Sudan.

National Police chief Gen. Sutarman said the task force comprised two groups, with the first consisting of eight male and six female police officers, who would join the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in Sudan.

The second group comprised ten male police officers who would provide assistance to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). 

'€They will help the United Nations monitor local police reform and restructuring [in Sudan and South Sudan] for a year,'€ he said on Friday as quoted from antaranews.com.

He said that the 24 police officers had passed tight recruitment organized by National Police headquarters and the UN.

The National Police have regularly sent personnel to UNAMID in Sudan since 2008, and to UNMISS in South Sudan since 2011..(alz)
