Dislikes superficial fiction, loves motivation stories

F

rom bikini model, dangdut singer, comedian to presenter, Julia '€œJupe'€ Perez wears many hats. But in her spare time, she likes to read books.

'€œI prefer reading books about reality, nonfiction ones. For me, learning from other people'€™s experience is far more enlightening than having to read fictional tales of love or other superficial stuff,'€ Jupe said.

The 34-year-old Gemini, who started her career in France as a bikini model for magazines FHM and Maxim, said her taste in books was based on her own personality as a public figure.

'€œI am the kind of person who likes to experience true love rather than just hearing or talking about it. That is why I prefer reality and nonfiction books about life and love,'€ said the woman, who recently broke up with soccer player Gaston Castano.

And although she loves reading nonfiction books about love, her favorite genre is motivational works on life and self-development.

La Tahzan: You Can Be the Happiest Woman in the World
by Aidh bin Abdullah al-Qarni

This is the latest book that I read. This book teaches Muslim women about how to become the most beautiful women possible in their everyday lives. People like me, who work in the entertainment industry, at times, need to be closer to Allah so that I will not be lost. And this book, along with the other La Tahzan series, is one of my favorites and one of the most influential in my life.

Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
by Stephen Covey

This books teaches so much about life, especially the basic rules about what we should do while living our lives. It teaches me to find out what my priorities are and what I should do to manage them and effectively reach my goals and dreams.

The Secret
by Rhonda Byrne

This book is very significant for me as it teaches me about the law of attraction and its applications in life. It basically says that whatever happens in life is triggered by our own mindset and perspective. If we have the right and proper mindset, we will be able to attract positivity toward ourselves and achieve what we want. The book inspires and teaches me to be wiser in coping with trials and tribulations and on how to reach my goals.
