ndonesia will depend on Australia for its beef supply within the next decade after both governments agree to a partnership on Food Security in the Red Meat and Cattle Sector that will last until 2024.
"We will review the partnership every two years," Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) investment and promotion deputy head Himawan Djojokusumo said in Jakarta on Wednesday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
He said the partnership would focus on cattle breeding, cattle breeding management and cattle-related logistics.
Earlier this month, BKPM head Mahendra Siregar met with Australian Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce in Queensland, Australia to begin the partnership between the two countries, he said.
The government has issued a 167,000 head of cattle import quota from Australia for the third quarter of 2014.
Meanwhile, during a 12-month period prior to April 2014, Indonesia imported 493,874 head of cattle from Australia, a 45 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. (nfo)
