Two alleged ISIL supporters arrested in Depok

The Depok City Police arrested on Friday two men suspected of being supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Firman Hidayat (36) and his father Muhammad Firdaus (60) were arrested after residents in Kemiri subdistrict, Beji district, Depok, West Java, reported spotting an ISIL flag adorning the walls of the suspects' house, Jakarta Police chief spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Friday.

He said that after one neighbor discreetly photographed the flag as evidence, residents informed their neighborhood and community unit heads, who in turn alerted the police.

'€œBoth men are still being questioned for their alleged roles in and support for ISIL,'€ Rikwanto said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The police also seized a laptop, a flag adorned with an ISIL logo, three flags featuring the word tauhid (unity of god), a sticker bearing the words Daulatul Islam Baaqiyah, a vest for a gas pistol and the suspects'€™ ID cards.

Investigators have also questioned several witnesses who were the first to spot the ISIL flag in the suspects'€™ home.

Rikwanto said that, in particular, he suspected Firman to be a new member of ISIL who had yet to be involved with terror networks in Indonesia.

The police have so far arrested five people in August for possessing ISIL paraphernalia. (dyl)
