In the eyes of many of his residents, Mampang Prapatan district head Fidiyah Rokhim is unlike other public officials.

The demolition of illegal buildings along the Mampang River in South Jakarta has been conducted this week without major resistance from the squatters, unlike the evictions conducted along railway tracks in Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta.

Part of this is due to the friendly and personal approach Rokhim has taken with the squatters.

One squatter, Sumiati, expressed her satisfaction with the district head, describing him as the '€œnicest public official'€.

'€œAll public officials should look up to Pak Rokhim. I think he is the nicest public official in Jakarta, or maybe in Indonesia,'€ Sumiati said after visiting the Komaruddin low-cost apartments on Thursday.

Your comments:

One hopes that the forces of democracy and good can nurture it out of the maternity ward, for what a wonderfully beautiful baby it is. Indonesia is at last on the cusp of greatness.

If the world was run by poor people instead of the rich it would probably be a much better place.

(Jakarta Governor) Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo, (Deputy Jakarta Governor) Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama, (Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini, commonly known as) Ibu Risma and Rokhim '€” is something happening in Indonesia or am I dreaming?

The only reason this worked is because they had a solution for where they would live and in better conditions.

If no solution as to where they would go was available, of course the situation would have been
different.

For poor people in Indonesia, respect and honesty goes further than money. Most people have not realized that yet.

Pak MB

We need more of these people, Jakarta going the right way.

The blank check the people gave to their leaders in the end turned out to be the lethal weapon that killed the creditors.

When the good is constructed merely as text, to be something that is written as an imperative reality, surely it will end up as a '€œlethal weapon'€ in someone'€™s hands as it can be used to justify his or her deeds and conduct.

If morality is performed only as an obligation, as an authoritative entity that dictates anything to do certain things itself, then morals as an inherent idea that exists in the human mind unavoidably turns out to be inanimate and inert writings only.

Undoubtedly, Rokhim is a good public official, but it doesn'€™t mean he is a moral man; as a public official Rokhim is performing the legal profession, as someone who acts in legal authority.

No matter that he is doing so, he is just pretending. Cicero once said '€œthe more laws, the less justice.'€

Titoyo

The world would be a much better place if it was run by people who are not poor in their minds (Did you really read my comment?) whether they are poor or rich.

Poor in mind is the enemy of growth!
