emocratic Party lawmaker Nova Riyanti Yusuf reported on Tuesday evening graft convict Muhammad Nazaruddin, a former treasurer of the same party, to the police on allegations of defamation.
On Monday, Nazaruddin told a panel of judges that former Democratic Party leader and graft suspect Anas Urbaningrum had two wives -- Nova being his second -- during a trial hearing regarding the Hambalang graft case at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) in Central Jakarta.
Nova said that Nazaruddin's statement shocked her because it was totally false. 'Since 2010, [many people] have defamed me,' she said as quoted by kompas.com.
She alleged that such a statement was another in a string of efforts to defame Anas's name since the Democratic Party congress of 2010. The latest alleged effort was the spreading a rumor that Anas had two wives; Nova and another woman, Atthiyah Laila.
Last June, the ruling Democratic Party's central board dismissed Nova from her position as deputy chairperson of House of Representatives Commission IX overseeing manpower and transmigration, allegedly over her refusal to follow the party in its support of candidate Prabowo Subianto, opting instead to endorse the presidential bid of Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
