akarta Police have confiscated a total of 11,959 grams of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, between June and August this year. They also confiscated more than 20,700 ecstasy pills and 799.08 grams of heroin.
'We have also confiscated chemical ingredients and laboratory equipment in the past three months,' Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyatno told reporters at police headquarters on Wednesday.
Police estimated the total value of the seized drugs was Rp. 31.57 billion (around US$3.1 million) and that the confiscation had saved an estimated 87,102 lives.
Furthermore, Dwi said that the police have arrested 14 people who were held responsible for the illegal drugs and several might face the death penalty if convicted of attempting to smuggle the drugs into the country, as stipulated in Article 114 of the 2009 narcotics law.
