he Cisco Visual Networking Index says Indonesia's Internet protocol (IP) growth is the second fastest in the world, meaning that the number of Internet users in the country continues to increase sharply.
The index also predicts that there will be 164 million Internet users in Indonesia and 530.6 million devices connected to the network by 2018.
Citing Association of Indonesian Internet Providers (APJII) data, Cisco said as of 2013, there were 71.19 Internet users in Indonesia. With a penetration rate of 28 percent, there would be rapid increases in the number of Internet users the country within the next five years from 2013.
With such a rapid growth, Cisco said, Indonesia was one of countries that had entered the 'Internet of Everything [IoE]' era.
'We're no longer in the beginning of the IoE era. IoE is no longer a term for a trend in the future. It's now a challenge about how we will create a [technological] transformation in Indonesia via IoE,' Telco sales director for Cisco Systems Indonesia, Ichwan F.Agus, said as quoted by kompas.com in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
He added that in the next 25 years, IoE would contribute significant increases to Indonesia's economy as just within the next decade, it would bring US$19 trillion worth of global opportunities. (dyl/ebf)
