ormer International Cricket Council chief executive Malcolm Speed has been appointed to head the board of financially-troubled Cycling Australia.

Speed, who worked for cricket's world governing body from 2001 to 2008, will lead a board that includes Gerry Ryan, owner of the Orica-GreenEDGE professional cycling team, women's basketball chief executive Leanne Grantham, ex-Saatchi and Saatchi CEO David Ansell, corporate advisor Matt Dever, commercial lawyer Linda Evans, financial markets expert Anthony Griffin and media lawyer Justin Quill.

Ryan took over as president late last year and has overseen reform of Cycling Australia's governance. He said at the time CA's financial problems were so severe "if it was a private business, it would no longer be operating".
