he Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has nominated four politicians, including outspoken lawmaker Fahri Hamzah for the House of Representatives speaker position.
Leader of the PKS faction at the House, Hidayat Nurwahid, said that Fahri would join Sohibul Imam, Al Muzzamil Yusuf and Mahfud Siddiq as the party's candidates for House speaker.
'We will nominate them [...] God willing we will be able to bring in a professional House [speaker],' Hidayat told reporters on Monday.
During the presidential race, Fahri created a stir -- one many say drove Muslim supporters away from Prabowo Subianto -- by saying that then presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's proposal to name 1 Muharram (Islamic new year) a national santri (Islamic student) day was a 'sinting' (crazy) idea.
Vice president-elect Jusuf Kalla said that by responding to the statement with the word sinting, Jokowi-Kalla effectively took 10 million votes away from the Prabowo-Hatta camp.
Earlier, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) announced the nomination of four candidates in the race for House speaker.
PDI-P secretary-general Tjahjo Kumolo said the leader of the party's faction at the House, Puan Maharani, daughter of party chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri, was one of the four candidates.
