NCHEON, South Korea: The 17th Asian Games will present the Most Valuable Player (MPV) Award to the best performing athlete, who will be announced during the closing ceremony.
A steering committee will nominate a shortlist of athletes, and the media will be invited to vote for the best performing candidates.
Media Guide stipulates that candidates should be those who win gold medals, world or Asian Games record breakers and exceptional performers who have overcome challenges with drive and passion.
The award was first introduced at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, with sprinter Ito Koji of Japan the first recipient. Incheon marks the fifth edition of the games to present the MVP Award. The winner is entitled to a trophy, products from games sponsors and prize money.
Past awardees include Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima (2002), South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan (2006) and Chinese shuttler Lin Dan (2010).
