The Malang Immigration Office in East Java has detained 13 Chinese who failed to present legal documents.
Immigration officer Romi Yudianto said on Wednesday that his office had located them after receiving a tip off from residents.
'We found the 13 Chinese at Olympic Garden Mall on Jl. Kawi at 2 p.m. We are still questioning them,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that according to a preliminary investigation, the Chinese arrived in Malang two days ago on vacation.
He said it was unclear why they were not carrying official documents because they had been in Surabaya, the East Java capital, for 20 days before visiting Malang.
'We detained them because we are responsible for monitoring all foreigners who come to this city,' he said.
On the same day, the immigration office deported another Chinese man, Tan Zhenxiong, 39, for violating his stay permit, he said.(alz)
