number of passenger boats linking Jakarta with the Thousand Islands regency were docked on Wednesday because the operational funds to buy Pertamax high-performance fuel had yet to be disbursed.
MS, 35, one of the skippers of the boats owned by the Jakarta Transportation Agency, confirmed that service was stopped because of fuel funding problems.
"We were informed that the funds had got stuck. That is why we cannot buy Pertamax fuel for the boats," MS told reporters, as quoted by kompas.com.
The agency's boats stationed at Kali Adem port in Penjaringan district, North Jakarta, usually refuel at a service station in Marina, Ancol, North Jakarta.
On Wednesday, however, the boats were not allowed to refuel, which MS suspected might have been related to unpaid bills.
"Usually we just refuel at the fuel station," the skipper said.
A trip from Kali Adem to the Thousand Islands usually consumes between 240 liters and 300 liters of Pertamax, while the Kali Adem-Marunda route consumes around 120 liters of the high-performance fuel.
Separately, the agency deputy head, Bunyamin Bukit, admitted that he had yet to learn about the problem and he promised to investigate.
'As far as I know, the boats operate every day. I'll check whether it is true or not,' said Bunyamin. (tah)
