apanese Foreign Affairs Minister Fumio Kishida has announced that the visa-exemption policy for Indonesians wishing to visit Japan will come into effect on Dec.1.
The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tokyo said in a press release as quoted by Antara news agency on Thursday that Minister Kishida announced the facility on Tuesday.
The KBRI Tokyo said the visa-exemption facility would be valid for a 15-day visit and not valid for work. At the same time, the Japanese government will also put into effect a multiple-entry visa with a five-year validity, longer than the current three years. The multiple-entry visa is valid for visits with specific purposes to Japan, such as for business, study, etc.
Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Yusron Ihza Mahendra, said he was grateful for Minister Kishida's announcement.
'With this announcement, the long-awaited visa-excemption facility for Indonesian citizens who wish to visit Japan is now clear and confirmed,' he said.
Ambassador Yusron further said that the visa-waiver policy which made it easier for Indonesians to travel to Japan would hopefully open wider opportunities to the country's people to understand more about Japan and give them a wider perspective.
To ease immigration at Japan's international airports, the Japanese government has also required that to avail of the visa-excemption facility, visa applicants should have an Indonesian passport that can be scanned by computers at immigration posts. To get the visa exemption, visa applicants must register their passports with the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta or the Japanese Consulate General in Indonesia. (ebf)(++++)
