oe Chia is very attached to his gadgets and cannot imagine what life would be without them.
The Malaysian designer likes making clothes that are comfortable, easy to use and have a lot of functionality ' the qualities that he also looks for in a gadget.
'I'm a busy person and I need gadgets that can do a lot of things but are easy to use,' Chia said during his visit to Jakarta recently for the fifth Plaza Indonesia Men's Fashion Week.
The 27-year-old started to think of a career in fashion after high school. He studied at the Raffles Design Institute in Singapore, graduating in 2010. Two years later, he launched his own brand, Joe Chia RTW.
Although he has only been in the business for two years, Chia has picked up an award for best men's wear designer by Newman magazine and been listed in the 'Top 40 under 40' list from Prestige magazine.
Chia has also collaborated with international labels, such as Uniqlo, Reebok and Shu Eumura.
Here are Chia's favorite gadgets:
iPhone 5s
Before I go to bed, I will look at my phone, and the first thing I will do in the morning is check my phone again. For me, the iPhone is my favorite brand because it has the qualities I'm looking for. I tried different brands before, but I didn't like them. But if there's another brand I haven't tried and its performance is better than the iPhone's, I wouldn't hesitate to try it out.
Camera apps
Pictures or photos are very important to me. I travel a lot, like to Jakarta. It's a short trip and I want to remember the details. Sometimes you just want to snap whatever that is nice to your eyes, so the quality of the camera is very important. It has to be fast enough to capture clearly.
iPad Air
I just bought the new iPad [Air]. I like the big screen, so I can show my look book to my clients. It's light, easy to carry and easy to flip.
Nikon DSLRs
I can't remember the type of DSLR. It's actually my
brother's, but I like to take it with me sometimes so I can take better
photos on special occasions. I usually use it to take backstage photos,
fittings, and when I go traveling to exotic places.
