Purwokerto, the capital city of Banyumas regency, will soon become a separate administration, an official has said.
'We have expressed the proposal of the extension of Banyumas regency [and the separation of Purwokerto] to Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo recently. He said the plan was feasible,' Banyumas Regent Achmad Husen told reporters on Tuesday.
Husen said the separation of Purwokerto from Banyumas regency, which holds 27 districts, 331 villages and a population of some 1.8 million, had been a discussed openly since 2002. 'Hopefully, it will be achieved in 2018 after all preparations and assessments have been completed,' he added.
