The city administration and the Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Corporation (JOTRC), a consortium of private and state-owned enterprises, is gearing up to nominate the Kota Tua (Old Town) area in West and North Jakarta as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Your comments:
Indonesia should first do maintenance work to protect this vulnerable heritage site before submitting it to UNESCO.
Many buildings are full of squatters or are on the point of collapse. The area is also choked with traffic and garbage.
Before applying for the UNESCO honor, Jakarta needs to clean up this area and enforce conservation laws.
