ormer minister Rini Mariani Soemarno, who is also a close aide to former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, was mulling suing a media outlet that ran a report suggesting she was not eligible to be a ministerial candidate, a close aide to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Wednesday.

A national media outlet ran a report on Wednesday that said Rini was one of the ministerial candidates that had been red-flagged by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Andi Widjajanto, a Jokowi confidant who used to serve as deputy of Jokowi's transition team, said Rini may sue the media company as the report could be deemed "a violation of state secrecy'€.

"Whoever discloses names perceived as receiving red flags or yellow flags from the KPK and PPATK [Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre] violates state secrecy and thus can be criminalized. The reports handed over by the KPK and PPATK to Jokowi are top secret documents," Andi told reporters after meeting with Megawati at the latter's house in Central Jakarta.

Andi also pledged to launch an investigation into those who leaked the information in the first place. "Such a leak is a serious violation," he said.

He added that such "false" information would "seriously damage" the credibility and integrity of accused figures.

Earlier on Wednesday, Jokowi said eight out 43 ministerial candidates had been eliminated from the list as a result of being red-flagged by the KPK. (nfo)(++++)
