he second edition of the Jakarta Marathon is set to take place Sunday, with a cultural festival and pop group JKT48 ready to enliven the annual sports event.
Deputy governor for tourism Sylviana Murni said the cultural festival would distinguish the Jakarta Marathon from other marathons in the world.
'The Jakarta Marathon will be different from the London Marathon, Tokyo Marathon or Paris Marathon because we will have art performances from different regions on different stages from the start to the finish line,' she told a press conference at City Hall on Wednesday.
The performances will include dances from Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, and Papua.
Local pop group JKT48, which has been named the Enjoy Jakarta ambassador, will also be performing at the event.
Jakarta Sports Agency head Ratiyono said 14,120 runners had registered to join the race. Elite runners from Kenya, Japan, Ethiopia and Thailand will also be participating. The Jakarta Marathon will start and finish at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta.
