he city administration plans to allocate Rp 3 trillion (US$249.3 million) for the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) in 2015, higher than the Rp 1.4 trillion KJP budget allocation in 2014.
The KJP allows Jakarta students from low-income families to receive educational support from the city administration in the form of funding, which the students can use to buy books, uniforms and other spending to support their education.
According to Jakarta Education Agency Lasro Marbun, the city administration was still deliberating whether to increase the funding each student received.
'We are still in discussion about the amount of educational support KJP participants will receive next year,' Lasro said as quoted by tempo.co. However, he said that private school students received more money than those in public schools because private school students must pay education-development contribution fees.
This year the city has thus far disbursed Rp 670 million to 576,000 students for educational support. Eligible elementary school students receive Rp 180,000 per month from the city administration, junior high school students Rp 210,000, while senior high school and vocational high school students get Rp 240,000.
