em>Your comments on the swearing in by President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo of the 34 ministers of his new Cabinet on Monday, which some observers say constituted a compromise between choosing ideal figures and employing realpolitik:

A man'€™s got to do what a man'€™s got to do! Jokowi, in all his wisdom, did what he had to do.

Let'€™s just pray that God be with him and that the results take Indonesia to the next level.

One of the main characteristics of Indonesian politics is oligarchic culture, often related to family ties.

This is a force to be reckoned with even for a phenomenal outsider like Jokowi.

He doesn'€™t have much choice. It'€™s the best he can do at this moment. Give them the benefit of the doubt and time to work. We can criticize when criticism is due.

Everything comes with a price. How much is the government prepared to pay for the best there is to get the wow factor?

Cabinet ministers perform a thankless task. They get the worst of both worlds when they start their assignments in order to contribute to the nation.

For sure, they are exposed to adverse comments.

The way I see it is that virtually every Cabinet minister is very qualified but much depends on what he or she can achieve.

This is the first week of a new government. I do hope Pak Jokowi will use every Cabinet meeting to remind his ministers that any form of corruption, weak and unworkable policies, judicial leniency or going against the norm should be dealt with '€” also leaving no room for boondoggles or incorrigibles in the government.
