myGADGET: Ernest Prakasa Keeping it functional

S

tandup comedian Ernest Prakasa keeps the number of his gadgets few, focusing on functionality and mobility.

The 32-year-old used to wield only a smartphone while keeping a laptop at his side. Now, he has added a small tablet to his tech line-up.

'€œI now use a smartphone, a light laptop and a mini tablet. That'€™s it,'€ Ernest told The Jakarta Post.

Ernest made a huge entrance into the blooming Indonesian standup comedy scene, abandoning his previous job at a music label. He made his name after finishing third in the first Stand-Up Comedy Indonesia television competition in 2011.

While known for making jokes about his Chinese heritage, Ernest has lately been cracking wise on Indonesian politics and social issues.

He is currently busy with a web comedy series Second Chance and preparing to shoot a sequel to the groundbreaking Indonesian comedy film Comic 8 that is slated for release in April next year.

iPhone 4s

I made the transition to Apple phones after using the MacBook. I used to use BlackBerry, but then I decided to keep all my gadgets in the same ecosystem. I use it for its telephony function and also social media. I am on Instagram and Twitter. I am not on Path '€” Twitter takes a lot of time already. I won'€™t be doing anything if I have a Path account also.

I have no plans on upgrading the phone because I think it is good enough. The camera is not as good as those on the new ones, but I think it still can get by.

iPad Mini

I did not immediately buy the iPad when it was launched. I waited until they released the mini version, because it is smaller and thus has better mobility. I use the tablet for mainly content consumption: watching videos, reading e-books and playing games. I used to play the fighting game, Infinity Blade and the RPG [role-playing game] Dungeon Hunter.

It is basically an entertainment gadget that I use while travelling. I sync its media library with the laptop'€™s.

MacBook Air 11-inch

I moved to using the lightweight laptop to replace my old MacBook. I used a Vaio laptop before that. I use the laptop primarily for working: browsing and researching for my material. I am more comfortable browsing on a laptop. I also write and plan my bits using iMindMap. I also use the laptop to edit my videos using iMovie.
