Kenyan male runner Kenedy Lilan won the race in 29 minutes and 35 seconds, followed by two of his fellow Kenyan runners, Ngaresosemi and Yulius Brotil, who clocked in at 29 minutes and 38 seconds, and 29 minutes and 47 seconds, respectively.
Meanwhile, Peninah Kihen placed first in the women's division with a time of 36 minutes and 12 seconds. Two runners from Jakarta, Lazeena Rahman and Miki Yokohama, ranked second and third with times of 57 minutes and 58 seconds, and 63 minutes and three seconds, respectively.
The race, which covered a distance of ten kilometers, was also attended by international runners from countries including Denmark, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand and the UK. They competed for total prize money of Rp 752 million (US$61,563.68).
Agus Prayogo of West Java won the men's division for the elite national runner category while Yulia Ningsih of East Java won the women's division.
The runners started the race from Lumbini Park at the Borobudur complex and passed through Kandang Gajah, Borobudur Market, the Kujon intersection and Bumisegoro before returning via the same route to Lumbini Park.
'The Borobudur International 10K race has obtained a license from the International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] as an annually run race, which will remain for the next five years,' the Indonesian Athletics Federation's Magelang chapter secretary-general, Priatmaji, told The Jakarta Post.
Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said the Borobudur International 10K race was a crucial event that gave an opportunity for people with potential in athletics both from Indonesia and abroad to make achievements in the field. (dyl/ebf)(+++)
