he Makassar Police named Musakkir, a professor from the University of Hasanuddin's (Unhas) school of law, lecturer Ismail Alrip and four others, as drug suspects on Sunday.
The police named them suspects after the results of both urine and blood tests at the forensic laboratory of the South Sulawesi Police showed that the six people who were arrested early on Friday tested positive for drugs.
'Urine and blood test results of all of six people tested positive for narcotics. We've named them suspects but they are still in the category of users,' said Makassar Police chief Sr. Comr. Fery Abraham on Sunday.
He added that to clarify the roles of each suspect, and the articles of the law the police would use to charge them, Makassar Police investigators would hold a case review on Monday.
Unhas rector Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu said on Sunday that the university had not yet received a copy of police documents on the determining of Musakkir and Ismail as suspects.
Nevertheless, she said, the case would be handed over to the university's code of ethics council. 'The council will evaluate and analyze the level of mistakes and code of ethics violations they [Musakkir and Ismail] may have committed and will decide on sanctions for them,' said Dwia.
She further said that Unhas would also report the case to the Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry because it was the institution that had the authority to impose sanctions on and decide the status of Musakkir and Ismail as civil servants.
A day before his arrest Musakkir was dismissed from his position as deputy assistant to the rector, while Ismail had been suspended from his position as head of the legal aid technical and operational unit of the university.
Dwia said that all academic members were apprehensive about and very much regretted the incident, however, the case was individual in nature.
'He [Musakkir] actually had a very good track record. He is a religious person and has excellent academic achievements. The incident was a slip. The honor of a professor depends on his or her mental and moral strength. We very much regret the incident,' said Dwia.
Musakkir and Ismail were arrested following a police raid on a hotel on Friday during which they were allegedly caught using methamphetamine with two female students. (dyl/ebf)
