everal geologists from the United States and Japan have joined the monitoring of the Mt. Sinabung volcano in Karo regency, North Sumatra, which is still spewing clouds of hot dust and ash.
The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center's (PVMBG) Sinabung monitoring post head, Armen Putra, said the geologists were conducting research on the Sinabung eruptions, which have been ongoing for more than a year.
'The experts have offered to cooperate in monitoring the eruptions. They're interested in studying Mt. Sinabung,' Armen said on Sunday.
He revealed the geologists had donated nine appliances, five quake detectors from the US and four mountain-ordinate detectors from Japan.
'The devices are very useful in the monitoring activities.'
