tarting from 2015, the city authorities will prohibit all vehicles from entering Jl. Kemukus, a street connecting Kota railway station and Fatahillah Square in Kota Tua, West Jakarta.
Many buildings in the old town area are currently undergoing a major face-lift in preparation for a UNESCO World Heritage site nomination.
The head of the Public Works Agency's road construction unit, Heru Panatas, said vehicles being driven in the vicinity would disturb the renovation project. Therefore, he said, the city administration had decided to close the street to vehicles.
'Vehicles will be diverted to other nearby roads such as Jl. Kunir, Jl. Kencur and Jl. Lada Dalam. We expect the station and Fatahillah Square to be free from vehicles in 2015,' Heru said as quoted by tribunnews.com. (***)
