The Jakarta administration plans to cut back on meeting fees and honoraria to save money.
Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said the city could save up to Rp 2.3 trillion (US$188.7 million) by cutting back on such fees, which he said were unnecessary.
'Next year, we plan to cut back on meeting fees and honorarium. This way, we could save up to Rp 2.3 trillion,' Ahok said at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
Ahok said that the money could be spent on more urgent projects instead of being wasted on such unnecessary spending.
'Imagine what we could use the Rp 2.3 trillion for. We could fund infrastructure projects, health services, build rusunawa [low-cost apartments] or inject it to city firms,' he said.
'We must have priorities when it comes to money,' he said. (***)
