City to cut back on meeting fees, honoraria

The Jakarta administration plans to cut back on meeting fees and honoraria to save money.

Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said the city could save up to Rp 2.3 trillion (US$188.7 million) by cutting back on such fees, which he said were unnecessary.

'€œNext year, we plan to cut back on meeting fees and honorarium. This way, we could save up to Rp 2.3 trillion,'€ Ahok said at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

Ahok said that the money could be spent on more urgent projects instead of being wasted on such unnecessary spending.

'€œImagine what we could use the Rp 2.3 trillion for. We could fund infrastructure projects, health services, build rusunawa [low-cost apartments] or inject it to city firms,'€ he said.

'€œWe must have priorities when it comes to money,'€ he said. (***)
