Auto sales drop in November

Domestic automotive sales, of both cars and motorcycles, fell in November from the previous month, as shown by the latest sales data.

According to the car-sales data issued by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), car sales dropped about 14 percent to 91,268 units in November from the 105,356 units reported in October.

The November figure was the lowest monthly sales recorded throughout this year. The association recorded similar low sales in July, when the monthly car sales stood at 91,409 units.

With the latest result, total car sales reported from January to November remained flat at 1.13 million units compared to sales reported during the same period last year.

The data reveals that automotive maker Astra International maintained its control of the majority-market share with 51 percent during the 11-month period, supported by the November sales.

Toyota remained the brand with the highest sales throughout the year, followed by Daihatsu, Honda, Suzuki and Mitsubishi.

In a statement, PT Honda Prospect Motor marketing and after-sales service director Jonfis Fandy said that demand for Honda cars remained high, especially of the Honda Brio city car, economy multipurpose vehicle the Honda Mobilio and the Honda Jazz hatchback.  (***)
