he city administration has planned to allocate Rp 500 billion (US$38.8 million) from the 2015 city budget to procure plots of land to be dedicated for public parks.
The Parks and Cemeteries Agency's community participation department head Heru Bambang said on Tuesday that Jakarta should ideally set aside 30 percent of its territory for open green space, as obliged by the law, but the figure has only reached 10 percent.
'We will procure land plots for new parks,' he said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Heru said the city also welcomed private companies that wanted to get involved in creating new parks in Jakarta. 'It will be difficult for us to work alone,' he said.
The city administration had set a target of creating 240 hectares (ha) of open green space in 2014: 40 ha as city forests and 200 ha as parks, green zones and other open green spaces. (***)
