he Attorney General's Office (AGO) confirmed on Tuesday that two drug convicts on death row on Nusakambangan Island in Central Java will soon be executed.
AGO spokesman Tony Tribagus Spontana said the convicts will be executed by a firing squad.
'[The imminent executions] can be confirmed in the narcotics case,' said Tony on Tuesday.
For other death-row convicts who are currently imprisoned outside Nusakambangan, he said that executions would be conducted in stages, considering timing and the security of the process.
President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo earlier said he would not delay executions for narcotics dealers on death row, adding that he would reject clemency requests from them.
He said drug trafficking had become widespread in the country and exposed young generations to serious dangers.
The government's insistence on applying the death penalty has been met with criticism from human rights defenders, who argue that such punishment is inhumane.
Also on Tuesday, National Police deputy chief Badrodin Haiti said that his institution had prepared the firing squad for the executions on Nusakambangan. (***)
