he Jakarta administration set public junior high school SMP 30 in North Jakarta as a pilot project for a school with an electronic teaching learning system.
The school has a multimedia classroom equipped with 50 tabs and an all-in-one projector, courtesy of Chinese cell phone maker ZTE Corporation as part of its corporate social responsibility. ZTE Corporation also developed a system where students can access their school books as well as practice problems through the tab.
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said he hoped all schools would develop a similar system, which he called electronic education or e-education.
'This is a pilot project for e-education. Hopefully, all schools will have the same system and resources in the future.'
Separately, ZTE Corporation president director Mei Zhong Hua said that the firm would supervise the school in implementing the system to make sure that the students would benefit from their donation.
'In the system, students can access Indonesian school books, lectures and all kinds of information on education. Hopefully in the future, all students, not only in SMP 30 and Jakarta, would be able to enjoy the system,' Mei said. (***)
