5-month sentence sought for Facebook user

P

rosecutors at the Bantul District Court on Thursday sought a five-month sentence for Ervani Emy Handayani, 29, who is accused of insulting behavior on Facebook.

The prosecution, led by Slamet Supriadi, deemed that Ervani had intentionally spread insults in a post on the social media website.

'€œCell phones cannot write on their own, so the defendant intentionally committed this act,'€ said Slamet.

The defendant had also not tried to erase the post since it was uploaded on May 30.

The prosecutors deemed that Ervani had no intention of erasing the post, despite the complaint and her being named a defendant.

Based on the facts, the prosecutors considered that Ervani had violated the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (ITE Law). (***)
