A mother and her child died on Friday after the two were trapped inside a house during a fire in Tambora, West Jakarta.
At least 37 houses caught fire in the densely populated area, which is known to be prone to fire incidents, on early Friday.
The victims were identified as Yati, 40, and Teguh, 5.
'The bodies have been taken to the hospital for autopsies,' Jakarta Fire Agency West Java chapter operational division head Abdul Wahid said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Friday.
Tempo.co reported that Yati and her son spent a night in the house to help the house's owner to prepare food for a circumcision event.
Angke subdistrict head Masyudi said around 400 people were displaced in the incident. The fire was allegedly triggered by a gas leak in one of the houses. Around two dozen fire trucks were deployed to distinguish the fire.
