public consultation held as part of an environmental impact analysis conducted by PT Gorontalo Minerals, a subsidiary of mining firm PT Bumi Resources, and several stakeholders, including the provincial administration, community leaders and traditional miners, ended in chaos on Thursday.
Representative of traditional miners, Sunaryo Dulanimo, who attended the meeting held in a seaside restaurant in Gorontalo city, demanded the event be stopped saying it was illegal because it was not attended by all elements representing the traditional miners organizations located within the Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (TNBNW) in Bone Bolango regency, the mining block contested by both parties.
A few moments after speaking, Sunaryo was mobbed by a number of people, including Arjun Mogulaingo, former Bone Bolango regency council member who currently works as an external staff member of PT Gorontalo Minerals.
Gorontalo City Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Roni Julianto, who also attended the meeting, said he would pursue the case.
